Jim Stryker is widely recognized for his leadership development, executive coaching, project management, team building, and facilitation skills.  His expertise includes the use of systems thinking in applying cutting-edge technology to performance feedback, including 360° feedback design and implementation, development and training, group facilitation, organizational improvement, and leadership development at all levels - from front-line supervision through executive leadership.  Jim’s deep knowledge and experience with strategy implementation and the Balanced Scorecard dates back to 1994 when he was involved with the scorecard – led transformation of a major U. S. oil company.

 

Relevant Experience

 

Jim’s accomplishments include:

·          Designing a cutting edge global Action Learning program for a leading pharmaceutical company

·          Creating high impact leadership development and coaching processes linked to implementation of strategy

·          Leading strategy implementation/leadership development projects utilizing the Balanced Scorecard for two recent major oil company mergers

·          Creating a cutting-edge individual leadership development process for the top 200 managers of a major oil company leading to a net profit ranking improvement from seventh in 1994 to first in 1995–1999.  This involved an increase in annual after tax net profit of $500 million and cash flow of over $1 billion

·          Leading the U.S. rollout of a supervisory change management workshop for over 1,000 managers that resulted in continued focus on productivity and delivery of superior business results in the face of uncertainty caused by an impending merger

·          Developing scorecard metrics with linkage to pay at all levels of a 6,000-member organization.

·          Developing and leading a global team to eliminate the duplication of effort and increase worldwide communication, synergy, and creativity in training and development.  The project resulted $500,000 of documented savings in the first six months

·          Researching, designing, and piloting a multi-rater feedback system that became standard practice for over 10,000 employees

·          Developing and implementing a service station dealer quality improvement process that focused on customer satisfaction.  The program increased the company’s market share from 6.8 percent to 7.1 percent in U.S. service station’s from 1993 to 1996.  The program also became the model for sales force effectiveness

·          Facilitated the development of a channel partner advisory council process and system which resulted in the best dealer and distributor relationships in the oil industry

Professional Background

 

Jim founded Leadership Perspectives in 2003 after being a partner in Emergence Consulting for two years.  Prior to that he held numerous positions with Mobil Oil Corporation including Quality Improvement and Training Manager and Manager of Strategic Business Skills Development.  Jim holds a Doctor of Education Degree in Leadership and Human Resource Development from The George Washington University, a Master’s in Business Administration from Dowling College and a Bachelor of Arts from Adelphi University with majors in Economics and Psychology.  He also holds a Quality Manager Certificate from The George Washington University School of Engineering.  He is an active member of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and the Academy of Management.  His article, “The Individual Leadership Development Process at Mobil Oil”, appeared as the last chapter of In Action: Effective Leadership Programs, published in 1999 by ASTD.
